Portugal
Portugal is situated in Southern Europe, on the western
side of the Iberian Peninsula; it is adjacent to Spain
in the North and East and with the Atlantic Ocean to the
West.
The Azores as well as the Madeira islands found in the
Atlantic Ocean South West of Portugal is part of the
National Territory.
The duration of the voyage from continental Portugal to
the island of Faial lasts approximately two hours.
Aerial Transportation
There are 2-hour flights between Lisbon and the three
airports in the Azores: Ponta Delgada (island São
Miguel), Lages (island Terceira) and Horta (island
Faial).
The tourists from Madeira; Porto or Frankfurt can fly
directly to São Miguel and go to Faial in just 45
minutes.
The are two existing companies that fly between Lisbon
and Faial are TAP and SATA.
Azores
Consisting of nine volcanic islands dispersed in the
middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, it is about 1.500 km
away from the occidental coast of Europe and
approximately 3.900 km the North American continent. The
Archipelago of the Azores extends along a Southeast to
Northwest axis. latitudes 36º-39º North and longitude
25º-31º West.
The anual average temperature is 63ºF, varying between
55º-57ºF the average of the coldest months January and
February and 72º73ºF the hottest months are July and
August.

Maritime Transportation
There is also year round Maritime transportation between
the islands of Faial, Pico and São Jorge, operated by
the company Transmaçor.
During summer time the same transportation is offered by
the company Açorline, connecting all the Azores islands
with the exception of Corvo.

Faial
This
volcanic island, more commonly known as the blue island
is shaped as an irregular pentagon, with an area of
173,42 km2. Faial’s capital is the city of Horta. It is
well known for its maritime port because of its position
in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is used by ships as a
replenishing station.
The Island of Faial, offers the tourists a cornocopia of
services related to nature on land as well as the coast.
Transportation
Taking into consideration that tourists would rather not
drive during vacation ,the “Casal do Vulcão” offers a
shuttle service that fits nine people, with special
attention to welcome and transport their clients from
the Maritime Port at Horta or the Airport of Castelo
Branco and visa versa. The shuttle also provides tours
between the Capelo and the City of Horta, the times for
tours must be planned ahead.
The shuttle company also allows you to go sightseeing
individually or in groups they will take you to the
major tourist attractions. If you prefer to enjoy your
independence we can always arrange for you to rent an
automobile.
Capelinhos
Volcano
The
location of "Casal do Vulcão" is only 1000m away from
the most valuable attraction. If not the most important,
it is without a doubt the most spectacular sight on the
entire island: THE CAPELINHOS VALCANO.
The "Casal do Vulcão" is the nearest villa to the
volcano, it is situated about 200m from the photograpphy
exposition adjacent to the volcano and the artisan shop
in the same building.
The proximity to the Valcano allows the tourists to have
appreciated leisure and contact with nature, the big
factor in motivating tourists to the region is
contacting the culture of those who lived there before
the erruption.
